Tips for your visit to the Mobile World Congress 2020

One more year, Barcelona hosts the Mobile World Congress (MWC20), the biggest event for the mobile industry. The 2020 edition will be from February 24th to February 27th. Last year, the world's mobile trade fair had a record attendance, with 109 000 attendees (2000 more than in the 2017 edition) from 198 countries.

In numbers, according to the GSMA, MWC20 generated some 473 million for the city and more than 14,000 part-time jobs. For this reason, the city of Barcelona is already prepared for the avalanche of executives and experts who will visit the city coming around the world. The organization also estimates that this MWC20 will be attended by more than 2400 companies.

What is the Mobile World Congress?

If you are preparing your visit to Barcelona to attend the Mobile World Congress 2020, we advise you to be aware of all the latest news of the MWC 2020 from the MWC official website. In this way you can take advantage of your days both in the congress and in the city.

This year, the main theme is called "Intelligent Connectivity", the Artificial Intelligence and the 5G Era. If you do not want to miss anything, we strongly recommend you to have your conference MWC20 program and mark your priorities. The MCW20 offers many interesting presentations by international experts from different sectors (mobile, e-commerce, financial services and media and entertainment, among others). This year, some of the keynote speakers are Marc Fontaine, Digital Transformation Officer in Airbus; Mats Granryd, Director General in GSMA; Rajeev Suri, President & CEO inj Nokia; or Sara Spangelo, Co-Founder & Ceo in Swarm.

In addition, more than 2400 companies will attend the event. The MWC20 includes other events related to the technology and innovation sectors will be held: ‘Youth Mobile Festival‘ (YoMo), ‘NEXTech, ‘Women4Tech‘ and ‘4YFN‘ (Four Years From Now) or Platinum Experience.

Also, to celebrate 25 years of recognition to the pioneers in the mobile world, the MWC once again counts with the Global Mobile Awards. The awards will feature a renewed ceremony to "recognize and honor individuals, teams, organizations and associations that have changed the meaning of what needs to be connected

Otherwise special devices will be deployed throughout the city, especially at the airport, the main train station and hotel areas. The entrance to the exhibition will be slower due to security measures, so we recommend you to going early.

How to arrive to the Mobile World Congress 2020

As every year, the Mobile World Congress is celebrated in two different places of the Fira de Barcelona: Fira Gran Via and Fira Montjuïc. Most conferences, seminars and exhibitions take place at Fira Gran Via. The organization is responsible for distributing a special fleet of buses to various parts of the city to take visitors to the venues.

However, if you want to arrive yo the MWC20 by public transport you can take the metro with the new lines L9 Sud and L8, which leave you directly ahead (‘Fira’ stop) from the city center or even the airport. You can also go by metro to the ‘Espanya’ stop – L1 (red) and L3 (green) lines – and then connect with the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) to ‘Europa / Fira’. Also from Plaza Espanya there are several buses (H12, 45, 65, 79, L70, L72, L86 and L87) that you can take to the ‘Plaça Europa’ stop.Photo: l9metrobarcelona

Another option if you want to know how to go to the Mobile World Congress is taking a taxi from anywhere in the city. The trip will cost you about 10€ from Plaza Espanya and about 30€ from the airport.
